Description of the offer The client, a federation of several renowned application-oriented German R&D institutes with a focus on microelectronics and smart systems integration is looking for scientific and industrial partners to collaborate on R&D projects. As part of one of Europe's largest organizations for application-oriented research, the federation combines the expertise of more than 10 institutes (plus some additional guest institutes) with a total of more than 3,000 employees in the following fields: - microelectronics / nanoelectronics - microsystem and communication technology. The federation’s core competences are to be found in the following areas: - Design for Smart Systems - Semiconductor-based Technologies - Power Electronics and System Technologies for Energy Supply - Sensors and Sensor Systems - System Integration Technologies - Quality and Reliability - RF and Communication Technologies Particular attention is paid to the different user branches of microelectronics / nanoelectronics as well as to those of microsystem and communication technology. These user branches are in particular: - Transport and Smart Mobility - Health and Well-Being - Energy - Digital Industry - Digital Life The members of the federation are able to produce demonstrators or prototypes, analyse processes and create reports, observe technological trends and market developments, carry out feasibility studies, support their partners’ technological and process development and accompany their partners through R&D projects. The federation is looking for scientific and industrial partners who are interested in R&D projects within the field of microelectronics / nanoelectronics. Concrete examples of collaboration are: - complementary research collaboration with other R&D organisations; - collaboration with relevant clusters and industry associations to serve as thematically focussed dissemination and multiplier partners. - Integration of companies (in particular SMEs) from the mentioned user branches into H2020- and other innovation-based projects to perform tasks such as testing and piloting new processes or products, acting as use cases of newly developed products, processes or technologies, or analysing and identifying needs of SMEs and smaller entities; All examples of collaboration can be realized under a service agreement (i.e. the federation - or one / some of its members - offers a defined service to the cooperation partner, e.g. the production of a prototype), under an outsourcing agreement (i.e. the cooperation partner has a certain task to be outsourced, e.g. the testing of a particular production line under predefined circumstances) or under a subcontracting agreement (e.g. in the context of publicly-funded projects where certain tasks of an overall action are outsourced to the federation or one / some of its members). Additionally, the federation is open to get involved as regular or associated project partner in publicly-funded projects.
Advantages and Innovations Due to its structure, the federation is able to provide a unique range of expertise of 13 complementary institutes in microelectronics. This structure facilitates to bridge the gap between fundamental research and product development. Within various R&D projects and research services the federation is able to develop different prototypes for a broad range of customers by combining the distributed knowledge of several institutes. The client’s technological and system developments are tailor-made and from a single provider as the federation operates joint laboratories and shared production facilities. This facilitates the communication and the dialogue between partners and provides an easy, simple and cheap way for collaboration. Results of the federation’s preliminary research in the areas of micro- and nanoelectronics as well as microsystem and communication technologies can be exploited by the cooperation partner through license contracting. This enables partners to make quick and best use of first-hand research results. Cooperation partners can benefit from the federation’s wide-ranging research network and numerous cooperation arrangements with renowned international research institutes and universities.

In particular, the federation is looking for companies (SMEs and large industries) that require R&D expertise in the named fields. - A particular R&D contract work will typically be carried out under a service or an outsourcing agreement. If the federation is contracted to carry out R&D activities within the context of publicly funded projects, this will typically be done under an outsourcing agreement. Additionally, the federation is open to get involved as project partner in publicly funded national and international R&D projects. - Potential funding programmes for a collaboration are for instance H2020, ZIM or Eurostars. For H2020, the following upcoming calls are interesting: ICT-03-2018-2019: Photonics Manufacturing Pilot Lines for Photonic Components and Devices, ICT-05-2019: Application driven Photonics components, ICT-06-2019: Unconventional Nanoelectronics, DT-NMBP-18-2019: Materials, manufacturing processes and devices for organic and large area electronics, DT-NMBP-19-2019: Advanced materials for additive manufacturing. - The new partner should have extensive branch-oriented background knowledge in at least one of the following fields: - Transport and Smart Mobility - Health and Well-Being - Energy - Digital Industry - Digital Life. - It is desirable to have experience in international cooperation.
